The completion of service hours is strongly urged for 6th graders and is required for the 7th and 8th graders. The child can serve hours for the family, neighborhood, community, church, and school. A minimum of eighteen (18) service hours is required for the school year. The idea behind performing service hours is to develop a habit of giving time and talent to others.
It is suggested to perform these service hours during each trimester, which would break down to six (6) hours per trimester. Incoming 6th graders who perform service over the summer between their 5th and 6th grade year and log it on the service hours forms can submit those hours for credit. Service must be completed and turned in for each trimester to show service during that trimester. Service hours completed over the summer will go toward first trimester on the report card and toward the end of the year total.
Students must log their service hours on the appropriate forms. These forms are available in 6th grade homeroom or online. The completed forms must be returned to Mrs. Scranton to ensure credit on the student’s report card and for storage from school year to school year. All service hours performed and recorded are subject to review by Mrs. Vick.
