In This Together: Engaging in the Mission Through Sacrificial Giving

In the Gospel of Mark, we encounter the profound story of the widow’s offering: 

“Calling his disciples to himself, he said to them, “Amen, I say to you, this poor widow put in more than all the other contributors to the treasury. For they have all contributed from their surplus wealth, but she, from her poverty, has contributed all she had, her whole livelihood.””

In this passage, Jesus teaches us the true meaning of sacrifice and generosity. The widow’s offering was small in the eyes of the world, yet it was the most precious in the eyes of God. She gave from the depth of her heart, offering not just her money but herself—her trust, her faith, her dependence on the Lord.

At St. Timothy, we are all called to participate in the mission of the Church not only with our talents, time, and prayers but also with our financial gifts. Tithing is not merely a duty; it is a response to God's overwhelming generosity toward us. It is an act of love and faith, a way for us to honor God and engage fully in the life of our parish community.

I invite all of us, with great love and trust, to consider how you are being called to tithe sacrificially, to give generously from your heart, in the same way that the widow did. Whether your gift is a first-time gift or a gift of many years, large or small, what matters most is that it is given with love, faith, and a desire to support the mission of St. Timothy Catholic Church. Your offering enables our ministries to grow, our community to thrive, and our parish to continue to bring the light of Christ to all.

As we close our Stewardship Month and begin a New Liturgical year in gratitude and giving, I ask that you prayerfully consider how you can contribute to the work God is doing through St. Timothy. Your financial support allows us to grow in Mission:

• Provide for the spiritual, educational, and social needs of our parish family
• Continue to offer meaningful worship and community events
• Serve those in need within our parish and beyond our walls

May we follow the example of the widow, who gave all she had with a heart full of trust in God’s provision. May we, too, give sacrificially out of love and faith, knowing that God will multiply our gifts to fulfill His will.

I ask you to join us in this mission by making a sacrificial commitment to tithe, engaging in the mission of St. Timothy, and helping us to continue to build a strong, vibrant community where the love of Christ is shared freely and fiercely with all.
