Catechesis of the Good Shepherd

St. Timothy Catechesis of the Good Shepherd
   1730 W. Guadalupe Rd., Mesa, AZ 85202

Welcome to Catechesis of the Good Shepherd!

This faith formation program for children 3 years — 5th grade is based on Montessori principles.  CGS initiates children into a covenant relationship with God, helping them receive and respond to the loving call of Jesus, the Good Shepherd, Who calls them by name, has loved them first, and desires a deep relationship with them.

CGS has three levels:
Level 1 serves children 3 yrs. old - Kinder.
Level 2 serves children in 1st - 3rd grades.
Level 3 serves children in 4th & 5th grades.
The specially-prepared environments (atriums), handmade materials, and trained catechists meet the physical, emotional, and spiritual needs of child development.
Based upon Scripture and the Liturgy, CGS was developed in Rome in 1954, following the Montessori principles of human development and respect for the dignity of every soul.
Using Montessori's "Spiral Method," the Doctrine of the Church, Scripture, and the Liturgy, the CGS method was developed  studying the child and seeing what aspects of a given presentation sparked a joyful yet peacefully-satisfied response. It took over 25 years to develop the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and we are honored to share its blessings with you and your children!

Registration for 2019-2020 Catechesis opens July 1, 2019!

First Reconciliation Preparation

To prepare for First Confession, children must have completed one year of religious education prior to the year of preparation.

The usual age for this Sacrament is seven years old and at the "age of reason," typically in second grade.
The age of reason is the ability to abstract. Because all children develop at their own unique pace, our catechists will help you and your child to discern their readiness for the Sacrament.

Confirmation and First Eucharist Preparation

Confirmation and First Communion preparation began with Baptism and when you first brought your child to Mass. Their catechetical formation, and the example of your love and reception of the Sacraments has continued to prepare your child for these Sacraments.

One parent, or the child's chosen Confirmation Sponsor, are required to attend the Confirmation and First Eucharist retreat with your child in preparation for these Sacraments.
The retreat, which occurs on a Friday evening and during the day on Saturday, is designed for you and your child to have quality time together and to look deeply at the great gift the child will receive.
We offer two retreat weekends. You will choose your preferred date when you turn in their Sacrament Paperwork.
